Specifics matter. The son is reacting to rejection in an emotional manner. May be a good course of action or may not be. He will experience strong emotions in the fall. A gap year visiting grandpa & grandma on their working farm is a safe retreat, not an exercise of independence like venturing into the real world.[/quote]
