Basically when the disc is getting full and you urinate or have a bowel movement, it will empty itself into the toilet. The disc itself stays in place for me and doesn't need to be repositioned. The risk of this is potential autodumping when you are not on the toilet. It has happened to me on one of my first cycles using it when I didn't put it in properly (needs to be pushed and tucked in). Fortunately I was at home.

I do wear a back up pad with this. Might explore period underwear for back up.

One benefit of the disc is that it doesn't have anything hanging down in your vagina like the cup does (well the ones will the pull tab might). So that may help with the irritation you are talking about. With the cup you can also try cutting off the stem if you don't need it to find the cup for removal.[/quote]
