It’s better to develop athleticism by mixing in other activities. Being fast and explosive on land helps with starts and turns. You can only swim so many laps before boredom and injuries set in. This area pushes kids to commit to swim early. But a kid under 12 could do swim 2-4 days per week and another sport 2-3 days and benefit from that. I started swimming at age 8 and did other sports with it until 10th grade. Swim was always the priority. Ended up high level D1.[/quote]
