You people are doing to the military exactly what you have done over the last few years to law enforcement. You are lumping ALL military into one group and demonizing them ALL because of the actions of a few. Do you do the same to teachers when a teacher is arrested for having sex with a student? Or, to lawyers when a lawyer is arrested for embezzlement? Or, to physicians when a doctor is arrested for molesting his patients?
The first thing my Catholic friend did when the Arlington report came out about her own diocese and sex abuse, which was years after the Boston revelation, was to type up a response on the Arlington Catholic Herald website the same day saying she felt bad for all the good priests that had to be lumped in with the bad ones. It's a typical tactic of someone who is not willing to actually look the problem in the eye and face it. Many people are able to say the military is strong, needs to be funded, and is protecting our nation in many ways AND also call this out as a huge problem.
So, in just 2 days this past week, six different teachers were arrested for having sex with minors. Do you think this is a huge problem?
You are deflecting but to address your "concern" I have no idea what part of the country you are talking about and I don't know if these are all related to actual in school experiences. If these people have been arrested, it seems like the courts will deal with the matter appropriately and have confidence in this. I can guarantee that there are more than six sex offenses that happened in the military this week with a much smaller population many of which do not end up reported. Sex offenses are also a huge problem in the military. The are related to imbalance of power. Why is this an issue that you are comparing to treason? First off, there are more sex offenses in the military than in schools and second, we can have a discussion that separates these issues to address them each one by one. Start a thread about sex offenses if it bothers you so much. What I do know is that the military actually says it has a huge problem with right wing militants in the actual military and veterans and that they do not prosecute most crimes that come to their ears either dismissing the event all together or discharging individuals without a criminal hearing. I wll trust the military that this is an actual large issue that needs addressing. They also have access to weapons that can be turned against civilians. Having a lot of American support Russia over the US is a problem and there do not seem to be enough controls on classified material.
