In Porto we stayed in a boutique hotel on Rua do Almada that was really lovely and great for the three of us but I think we'd have had to add another room if there were four. That was away from the water and the bridge to Gaia/port houses but again we walked so much it didn't matter and it was a nice quiet relaxing place to come home to yet still felt close to great restaurants and the main sights.
