A moderate Republican here.  I think the math does justify it.  Right now, they seem to be running pretty close.  But, unfortunately, the Republicans have a handicap here that they are a very close-minded party.  While it may seem that they would be unified behind their party candidate, there are many close-minded Republicans who are not birthers who will not want to see a Mormon in the White House and would rather vote for a black Christian than a white Mormon.   I can also tell you that Obama is generally more appealing to moderates than Romney.  And Romney was the most attractive candidate of all of the Republican presidential candidates.[/quote]

this captures Obama's best chance --- that the Republicans have become so captured by the most intolerant and viciously nasty and exclusionary fringe that enough independents will retch at the thought of endorsing that -- in the guise of a Mormon, no less -- and enable Obama to eek out a win.[/quote]
