Some top colleges are explicit that it is not an admissions hook. Others clearly favor faculty kids. Practically, other things being equal or close to equal admissions wise, the headache of upsetting a prominent faculty member isn't worth it to most schools. Faculty kids have access to internships and research opportunities that others don't have though. This was particularly true when we were at Stanford, which helps with admissions everywhere even if there isn't any formal bump for being a faculty child. [/quote]
