It's too bad but probably what happened. I bet there are others out there like you who just wanted to follow and not post, who have been axed. I long thought about getting a Twitter account and never posting, just to follow specific people on Twitter, and am glad I didn't bother (you can still see people's tweets even without an account, you just can't get notifications they're posted a tweet etc.).
