I agree it is a ridiculous expectation to have kids cut their vacations so short, but it probably helps the mega-schools in that it weeds out a certain percentage of kids who are not willing to do it.  We are weeded out!  There are plenty of private sports options out there that are better than the high school experience in terms of sports training.  You miss all the school spirit, though![/quote]

Winter and spring sport tryouts start about 3 weeks before the season starts.  Then there are practices.  Also, kids can do off-season conditioning. [/quote]
