The delay in processing AMC 8 results at Carson Middle School is due to a technical issue, as reported by my DC. Consequently, the results are being handled manually.
Is this similar to TJ's delay in distributing honorable mention awards for the National Honors?
The outcome could impact their TJ applications so they're purposefully trying to keep us down!
The TJ application does not ask about math competitions and the essay section is done before kids would know the results so there is no way for a kid to include the outcome in their essay. Chill out
Unless of course they mention their results from last year. Not sure if TJ admissions should trust that, since if they do every other applicant will be an AIME qualifier
Math Count+AMC 8 + Science Olympiad is no longer applicable to TJ admission. These tests are not admisnter with strict monitoring anyways. Not all schools participates hence under new admission process, they do not carry weight or perhaps work against the applicant.
How would they work against an applicant?
Simple. Longfellow or Carson kid who doesn't mention math contests in their essay is viewed as an unprepped, natural talent. The Longfellow or Carson kid who qualifies for AIME is viewed as the product of privilege and heavy enrichment. We can gloss over the fact that the kid who doesn't mention math contests either did poorly or isn't that into STEM, and that even with all of the prep in the world, many 8th graders are incapable of qualifying for AIME.
