Wow, that’s pretty insane luck to win the lottery for both schools on a waitlist round which has presumably way fewer seats bouncing around. We were lottery losers but have a few friends who accepted spots last year. The vibe we’ve gotten is the math/sci/comp sci is great at TKPK but the other courses not so great, same spiel but the reverse for Eastern, and the kids we know all had rougher social starts to middle school than the kids who matriculated to home school middle schools. Lots of HW at Eastern. [/quote]

I'm the parent with a kid who just got invites from both RCMS and MLK (upcounty magnets). She did score high on both maps but it seems *really* strange that she got pulled for both on the same day. Someone on this forum recently calculated the odds of getting your name pulled and it's like 150/(1800-set asides) - it's quite low for one magnet, let alone two.  I wish I understood the lottery process better (our 7th grader didn't get a spot for either 2 years ago and she actually had higher maps). We are in a low farms area. [/quote]
