Rooms are tiny but the nurses provide top notch postpartum care. I think if you convey to your nurse you’d prefer to not be checked on as much, they can accommodate that. You’ll still get visits from the pediatrician and the hearing test consultant (got a crazy bill for that, watch out!) though. I personally liked the food too!
Was the hearing consult not covered? I will be sure to ask my insurance about it. Thank you
It was covered but it was billed incorrectly to my insurance and it didn’t come in as GW hospital if I remember correctly. Definitely recommend checking those things beforehand. I also checked about anesthesiologist being in network for epidural and that went fine. Your nurse will also give you the birth certificate and other paperwork, DH took care of that. If bf isn’t going well, they have a pump they can bring in and formula for baby too. I was too much of a nervous wreck as a FTM to send baby to nursery but that’s another option. I clearly had a good pp experience but my nurses were wonderful. Taught me how to swaddle, diaper, and dress baby and also care for my 3rd degree tear.
They still haven’t fixed this? I had the SAME issue in 2016 and a colleague did in 2018. Their audiologist was not in network with our insurance and we both got crazy bills and had to fight since the screening is legally required for you to be able to leave the hospital. Ridiculous. My experience at GW sucked terribly but this was many years ago and I went to Sibley for my second birth which was an incredible hospital. The postpartum nurses were top notch, the hospital was quiet, parking was a dream, the care I got was attentive, no “bad apple” nurses, and I felt well supported throughout the entire experience. For anyone considering the switch, I’m so glad I did - I had a high risk pregnancy and it was handled beautifully.
