AMEN. The kid who is dedicated to engineering and/or CS and has VT as the top option in-state and who has worked hard for the past 12 years excelling in school and on standardized test but who gets shut out due to DEI (making the school 40% URM BS) or bc VT thinks it is their safety is who I am thinking of. These kids are the ones who will be hurt the most. VT is playing with social engineering with my tax dollars and I know plenty of people who refuse to even apply because of how they have handled admissions in the past few years.
NP. You do realize that just about EVERY university in the US is focused on DEI and gaining URM/1st gen students, right? The only difference is that VT is transparent about it and has never tried to hide this fact. UVA, etc. - they all do the same thing but don't expect them to tell you about it. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but your anger at this one school is misplaced. In addition, URM/1st gen still have to have the stats to get in. It's just one data point that might push them into the accepted pile. You should be calling out ALL the schools which do this.
Cite?
