DS class has 19 kids in it and we are not at  Title I school. There are a good number of schools with smaller class sizes in FCPS, it is something that parents can look for although class size fluctuates so small class sizes today might be larger in 5 years and large class sizes today could be smaller.

I don't like the automated comments, they tell you nothing and are useless. We have not had an issue with our 15 minute conferences. If there is more to be discussed, ask for another conference. We have friends whose kids have needed multiple conferences and that has happened without much fuss. The Teachers are in touch with the families of kids who are struggling at our school. Some of that is less county policy and more how individual schools are run. [/quote]

Lucky you. I suspect you’re good with your 15 minutes and don’t have much to discuss bc your child has a class of 19. Similarly, the teachers have time to reach out to families with issues and set additional conferences when they have smaller classes. There is a huge difference in how a class operates and what type of education your child receives in a class of 29. It’s crowd control at that point, especially in younger grades. I think it’s appalling that FCPS sets the class cap at 30. It should be lower and would make a world of difference for teachers and students. [/quote]
