Anonymous wrote: My son could handle a weapon responsibly at 14, heck he could at 12. Same. My older son built his first “black rifle” at 12. His younger brother, ever the rival, insisted on building his first at 11. They both later became Eagle Scouts. Now one is a Midshipman 2, and his older brother is in his last year of Seminary and will be Ordained in 2024.
This is so DCUM. There will soon be a poster whose son has won a Nobel Prize.
Clearly you are proud of your children, and it’s good to hear they have responsible parents who taught them gun safety. But your children are outliers (or you wouldn’t be bragging); so the question is should all the children with little to know adult supervision or training in gun safety be allowed to open carry weapons. Are you comfortable with their level of ability and rationality to enter a movie theater or grocery store with them, knowing they do not have the skills and/or maturity of your children? Because I’m not. Teenagers make dumb decisions all the time - look at the kid who’s decision to speed in Oakton (Vienna?) ended up killing those high schoolers. And cars require at least a baseline test to get a license.
