I have a question, my kid can read at the 5th-grade level and do math at the end of the 3rd-grade level. What is the possibility of getting MCPS to allow him to skip 2nd grade?
MCPS doesn’t like grade skipping. There are social issues also to consider. Some EC like sports are based on grade not age so child will be at a disadvantage if skips grade. In MCPS being that much above grade level isn’t way outside the norm. Our DC was 6-7 grades above level. After years of ES struggling to meet their needs we were offered a grade skip from 3rd to 5th. Instead we sent child to CES because of social and EC concerns that would come with grade skip. It wasn’t perfect and maybe didn’t get maximum academic acceleration but there is more to consider than academics.
