We were also disappointed to find that Prep's academics did not live up to its reputation.
Same here, DS shadowed and after that we didn't even bother to finish the application. Seems they've been coasting for the past few years.
Most people who choose Prep do so for the overall experience. It certainly isn't right for everyone. So fortunate for you that there are so many other available choices that might better meet your particular needs. Good luck.
We really wanted DS to attend Prep; for the "overall experience", but mainly because we thought the school was academically tops. Unfortunately, the more we looked and spoke to current families it seems the rigor is not there for some reason. I'm not sure if we just glamorized the school all these years or what, but we were still sad to decline their offer of admission. Anyone with insight into what changed or has the academics always been average/above average, but we were just blinded by the other great things about the school?
From your posts it seems that you were influenced by the enthusiasm of many for the school. But Prep is what it has been for many years, students with a range of academic abilities and classes with a range of academic challenge. It's possible to get a very good education there and to go on to a top college. But not everyone there has the same hign level of academic ability. Although you mention "overall experience" it seems your real priority was academic challenge and excellence. All schools and high school experiences have strengths and weaknesses. There are always trade-offs. But before you attend a school you may not be able to see what they are.
