I liked the first episode. Have never played the game and had zero expectations going in. SPOILERS FROM FIRST EPISODE, CAN'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU I found it shocking when Sarah died. It's a testament to the actress and the show's development of her character that I was as upset as I was -- I know that's the whole point because they want you to be as upset about her death as Joel is so that you understand who he is after the time jump. But I didn't expect to be surprised by *yet another* zombie show and that part did surprise me so kudos to the show. I will keep watching even if some of it does feel like a retread of other movies and shows, including the very recent The Last Man. I liked the first episode, plus I have quite a bit of faith in co-showrunner Craig Main (also did Chernobyl plus a lot of other stuff) so I will stick around to see where they take it. Pedro Pascal and Ana Torv are a good casting pairing. He is someone who is good at creating complex but sympathetic characters, and she is good at creating complex but prickly characters. I think the characters will be a good balance to each other. I also just really like both actors -- big fan of her on Fringe and Mindhunters. So far, I find Bella Ramsey's character kind of annoying and I don't love the "teen with an attitude" trope. However, I loved her on GoT where she had pretty minimal screen time but did a lot with it. Hoping to see more depth from her character pretty quickly. Fast zombies stress me out, watching 28 Days Later was a traumatic event for me I'm still not quite over, so my interest in the show has to override that and so far it does. It helped that they gave us a break from the zombie chasing after the sequence in Austin.
