High school math, $60 for algebra 1, $75 for algebra 2, and $80 for above that. I’m working on getting comfortable enough to tutor AP stats—there is a severe shortage of people willing/able to tutor that class, and I think I could get $120 once I’m up to speed.
Regarding AP STATS: Over on the College chat board there are a bunch of parents that said there kids said AP Stats was “easy enough” , no tutor needed. That board isn’t just FCPS, It’s all of Metro DC. On this FCPS board, there is a thread that has parents and teachers describe how Brutal AP STATS is. So what does this mean? Is it just certain kids have a harder time with it, or is it just completely different between districts and it’s “hard” in FCPS?
AP Stats teacher. AP Stats is the only AP math class that doesn't have a gatekeeper class so you get a lot of students who think that it's a good class if you haven't done that great in math so far but still want to take an AP Math class to impress colleges (bad idea). I have students who have only had Algebra II and students who are taking multivariable in the same class. Students who had a C- or below in Precalc or who took Trig/Discrete the year before. Even some of the kids in multivariable may have some difficulty with the class if they're not that great writers. Some ambitious students even decide to load up on a Calculus track class, AP Stats and sometimes even a coding class at the same time and get overwhelmed, unless they were stellar students to begin with. That's why some students find it easy and others really struggle.
