Grades declined nationwide after the introduction of virtual learning https://www.usnews.com/news/education-news/articles/2022-10-24/pandemic-prompts-historic-decline-in-student-achievement-on-nations-report-card
Child suicides also declined dramatically during that interval, and are now back up.
Are you sure? https://www.nichd.nih.gov/newsroom/news/042722-COVID-adolescent-suicide
What does this have to do with the VA? This means there are serious issues with in person learning and much more.
Please stop. You are right that these studies have nothing to do with continued virtual learning as a choice for parents and students, but they don't necessarily demonstrate that in-person is worse for all students. Different students have different needs.
You need to stop. No one is forcing you to choose VA. It is a choice program and just because you don't want it, doesn't mean the rest of us shouldn't have the option to choose it for our kids. These studies have nothing to do with the VA and if kids are struggling, it is not because of virtual learning as they've been back in person a year and a half. It is not a justification to shut down virtual academy when some kids learn better and there are continued health and safety issues for some families due to the lack of precautions in MCPS schools.
No one said anything about shutting down VA. Read what I said. VA is a choice; now in-person is a choice. You don't need to continually disparage in-person learning or those for home the forced, hastily assembled virtual learning while school buildings were closed didn't work. Focus on what your choice and stop judging everyone else.
No one is forcing anything on your or judging, except you. There is no need for you to come in this thread someone started to help others out who may be interested in the VA. There is no need to discuss suicide rates and kids failing due to virtual academy when those statistics had nothing to do with this program. In person is not a choice. It its the default and VA is an application program that is a choice program. Someone posted it trying to be helpful. The only way to know if VA is working is to do a comparison of students in VA to those in person within MCPS with similar characters. I don't believe MCPS has released that information yet.
