Solutions:
1. More police (not a few more, maybe double or triple the current number; raise pay if needed to attract more police)
2. Harsher sentences for criminals and an end to plea bargains that let too many criminals avoid serious jail time
3. More pretextual police stops to get guns off the streets (these actually do work)

I think the first one should be pretty non-controversial. They should pull a page from the past and build little sheds on every corner in areas where there is high violent crime and stick in cop in there 24/7. They need to have more patrols in high crime areas with more visibility. They also need to get more serious about nuisance crimes. [/quote]
