I am currently seeking Obgyn care at GW and MFM at Sibley. No preference for birth, want to bring a healthy living child home. Both hospitals are easy to get to. I am not sure how to decide where to give birth. I would appreciate your recommendations. Thanks.
Assuming you're high risk given you're seeing an MFM, I would choose gwu. Higher level nicu in case you end up needing it, and if you don't, still an excellent experience
Thanks, yes high risk due to late term fetal loss. Thinking keeping both care options open when I make it to 37 weeks I can stick to sibley before that open to GW.
I'm the PP who pointed out you'll need to switch to an ob who delivers at Sibley if you want to deliver there. 37 weeks is likely way too late to switch to a new practice because they may not be able to accommodate anymore patients in your due date window or they are not comfortable taking on a new high risk patient so late. The sooner you switch, if you're going to, the better. Or, as I mentioned before, you may be able to keep these options both open if you can switch over to Dr. DrSouza now.
Thanks so much. I am going to talk to my MFM at Sibley next week. I love my obgyn at GW so leaving her would be so hard. Need to think this through more.
Who is your obgyn at Gw?
Dr Jasmidi
I'm PP @10:24 and @08:14. Even though I'm not the one who asked who your GW OB is, I feel compelled to respond because I, too, am with Dr. Jamshidi at GW and the Sibley MFMs right now! I will be delivering at GW. That's where I delivered my first. After trying out 2 other OB practices that deliver at Shady Grove (I live in MoCo; GW is a long way for me), I still decided to stay with GW this time around because I like the fact that all the doctors on Labor and Delivery are part of the same practice, therefore all are technically available to me and responsible for my care should something go wrong. I go to Sibley MFMs because of poor interactions with Dr. Gallagher at the GW Bethesda office in 2 prior pregnancies, one of which I sought a last minute urgent 2nd opinion and it was Sibley MFMs who got me in and treated me so well amidst the crisis we faced with that pregnancy.
NP. I had excellent gw experience. I had seen Gallagher until start of 3rd trimester and had an issue with her care so did one appointment with Bathgate downtown and just saw regular OBs the rest of my care. I felt in very good hands during the delivery. My family member delivered 24 week old twins at GW and I credit their life to their amazing nicu experience. Fortunately I ended up not needing nicu but was comforted knowing I'd be in good hands in case I was. I also am grateful how easy it was to switch doctors at 30 weeks. I was flexible at the end on location given I was near the end. My only complaint about gw is the postpartum room was tiny- like hard to fit the tray cart thing plus bassinet. But didn’t really matter. L&d room was huge. I didn't mind that it was a training hospital. I could tell you the attending ob and midwife on call when I was in labor- not the residents. It felt like the attending were in charge.
