MPD already have all sorts of surveillance all over the city. The problem is they won't use it to solve common crimes. They refuse to discuss what they use it for, they won't even tell the Council what they use it for or even the extent of it.
Man you just don't know laziness and incompetence when it's sitting right in front of you. If they actually used surveillance they would end up having to arrest someone and then testify at trial. I'm guessing they pay their retired friends for this program and then do nothing with it other than put out a call that shots were fired in a neighborhood. Also, a lack of details about what it does keeps the wealthy DC homeowners at ease thinking gun violence will be prosecuted.
Keep in mind Bowser dismantled the vice squads who had the job of infiltrating, setting up probable cause, and executing raids. You think a beat cop should knock on the front door of a drug house and… do what exactly? DC residents are getting exactly the police services they’ve voted for.
I don't recall a vote on vice squads. But sure, Bowser could do better. Put up a candidate who's a.) actually better and b.) actually electable. Haven't seen that happen.
