If “new math” is just Montessori math, that means that in DC publics, kids in traditional schools and kids in Montessori schools are getting the same kind of math instruction. In that case, why do kids at traditional schools do so much better on the math assessment than kids in Montessori schools, even when controlling for SES? Actually, especially when controlling for SES, since on average, students at Montessori charters/city wide schools have higher SES? This makes no sense. Full disclosure: my kid is in ECE at a Montessori charter.[/quote]
