I make about 100k and have a normal, middle class lifestyle and net worth around 2 mil.

This is the only reason you can do it. “Trendier neighborhood” has nothing to do with it. You got in before housing exploded.

I wasn't including my primary residence. I think the original house I bought was about 200k, and is now valued at 400k. Another big factor is not having to commute to DC, which would have made my life hellish. Most of my coworkers make the same salary but don't have a pot to piss in because they were never willing to make sacrifices. [/quote]
