The Russian military will be largely pushed out of Ukraine by spring. Ukraine is much better equipped/outfitted going into the winter and have all the momentum. Of course, that means Russia will continue its new leading role as a state sponsor of terrorism and lob missiles from a distance. But at that point, it's terrorism...not war.
+1. The Ukrainians will continue their attrition strategy through the winter. The Russians will have weak and unreliable logistics and supply but still a great willingness and ability to throw warm Russian bodies into the meat grinder. So, Ukraine will push Russia out, but not this spring - more like summer to fall. When the Russians are out, Ukraine will be invited to NATO immediately. And Russians will be given a warning that further attacks on Ukraine will be considered attacks on NATO with proportional conventional NATO response on Russian soil for any attacks launched from Russian soil. Putin will have to decide if he wants to be king of a smaller fiefdom or if he wants to keep fighting and losing. Like Milosevic he will swallow defeat, label it something else, and continue to maintain power of a diminished Russia.
