This book Jar City is great PP. The speed with which it jumps from case to case and strong image to strong image (those 70 yr old twins in their red sweaters) makes me think it would be ideal for TV / film adaptation. Thank you!
Great! I'm glad it was a good recommendation. I'm on book 4 in the series (The Draining Lake) and still going strong. PP who posted about Yrsa Sigurdadottir, she is next on my Nordic Noir list after I get through Indridason's Sveinsson set.
Yeah I've had to stop Jar City because of all the rapes. Do the other books in the series focus on rape a lot too?
Out of the ones I've read so far, one (maybe two) focus on rape and DV as the crime being investigated. If you didn't care for Book 1 due to this, probably would not suggest continuing with the series. Overall I'd say Indridason's books are more violent and darker than other series in the genre. Certainly more so than Wallander. Karine Engberg (Koerner & Werner mysteries, set in Denmark - 3 books so far) is less in-your-face... there are still murders, of course, but it's an easier read. She also delves more into the actual police work and investigations, and develops her two main characters really well.
Thanks for these recs. (I read for about an hour before I go to sleep so some things are more impactful at that time!)
