In reality, the far far far most likely reason for it is genetics. Just like for almost everything else. It is dx more now as we are more aware of it, but we all have that 'quirky' or unique relative in the family tree, who was probably not dx.

Totally feel this. One of my kids has a nut allergy with no family history. I was pregnant with her during the “don’t eat PB” while pregnant period and “wait to give it to babies.” Boom, nut allergy. Of course they have reversed all this now and I feel like I totally screwed her for life, even though I did what I was “supposed” to at the time. I am still resentful they have that recommendation without being sure, clearly.[/quote]
