I agree with this.  If you didn’t discuss paying for the movers as part of the initial arrangements, I think you should pay, since the friend had no say in making the arrangements. I hope the friend tipped the movers generously.

Just saw the update. Since the friend arranged it with the movers, and since you told the friend to “hire” a mover, it’s on the friend to pay.  I’m surprised that the moving company didn’t get a credit card or deposit from your friend when they arranged it.

+1 this is a weird story. Why would a moving company assume a client who referred them to a new client was going to pay it? Sorta think OP called the mover herself and is hiding the ball on that. [/quote]

The friend is actually my brother in law. All other facts are the same. Movers will get paid.
