I'm wondering this question, too. The chances we'd get into either Eastern or TP are so low, given the current system, so I'm not sure how much benefit it would confer for admissions into the various high school magnets.
The good news is this is the last year of lottery, but nobody knows what's next.
[I] Have you seen this somewhere official? I hadn't heard that it was definitely going away.
Not the PP, but I believe the official line is that this is the final year of the "test" or "pilot" and that whatever comes next will either continue the pilot or attempt something diferent.
It's not clear to me that the CogAT is a great solution either, but it would be hard to do worse than the lottery. However, the HS hasn't used a lottery. I'm curious how that's worked out. There are plenty of smart kids at TPMS even with the lottery, but it isn't the same as before. I'm glad more kids get a chance now. It's also clear that many more are capable of doing the work than the number they admit. I'd like to see teacher recommendations and a higher bar for math (geometry) since this is a stem magnet.
