The point is that the VLC 2026 Independence players will play V this season and make an impact. I am not sure if the PVI freshman will even make Varsity or have an impact this season.
2023 Independence Varsity could not compete in the upcoming WCAC Junior Varsity division. This year's 5A VA public school division is no where near the level of play as the WCAC or VISSA and that's not even arguable (Last year's Riverside team and 6A VA is a different conversation). But for this conversation, yes, the 2026 VLC kids at Independence will play varsity due to their 2023 and 2024 classes lacking any talent. The VLC 2026 kids at PVI will play JV because of the strength and depth of the 2023 and 2024 classes. How many D1 and D3 commits in each of those classes again? As mentioned earlier the VLC 2026 kids will probably get pulled up to varsity at the end of the spring. I'd say that speaks to the skill level of that group of boys. Will Indy be competitive at the 5A public level in 2026? Sure thing. Until then they will continue to struggle against Riverside and Briar Woods.
