Our 7 month old puppy was spayed last week. We put her to bed in her crate and two hours late she started whining. We took her to go potty. She seemed very uncomfortable and unsettled so I slept on the couch and she slept next to me on the floor or her doggy bed. She'd wake up and cry. I'd rub her head. It was a tough night. By night 2 she was a ton better and slept in her crate all night like usual. Now she's 100% fine and fully recovered. OP, your dog was traumatized that first night. She now hates her crate. You need to rebuild a positive association and trust that it will be okay when she's in the crate.
Ugh I'm so upset. I didn't take her out because they said confine her and she would jump on our bed. How do I fix this? Put treats in there? Not sure what else to do.
When we took our dog out of the crate we put her on a leash to stop her from jumping. You basically crate train again. Treats. Short stints in the crate. Kongs in the crate.
THIS. Pretend your pup is new to the crate, and re-introduce it. Feed in there, toss treats in there and give extra treats when she goes in there to investigate, extremely short durations in there with extra good treats, and so on.
