On another note. The "changes" they did implement don't make much sense. They have barred students from other schools which shows a true lack of understanding about how moco works. Your student might be in a special program for engineering but has friends at their home school. Too bad, no longer allowed to go watch your friends play. Your girlfriend / boyfriend might go to a neighboring school. Too bad, no longer allowed to go watch a game. You may go to private school. No longer allowed to go watch friends play. Its really punishing the student athletes who have done nothing wrong while failing to address the real issue. The game last week started not with visiting spectators but with players and coaches. In the end, any "bad apples" will still walk right in to the stands because they just need "an adult" which isn't defined further. It was a scramble to look like they were doing "something " but what they did was nothing except penalize the innocent.
+1 The reaction by MCPS was to place blame on spectators instead of looking to the core problem of violence in their athletics program. The fighting started on the field. Coaches were involved and under investigation. There is no rationale that barring students from outside schools will make athletic events safer. One school in particular - Northwest - has a two year history of fights at football games. Perhaps start with the behavior of those students instead punishing the rest of the Montgomery county community.
I mean northwest had a student murdered in cold blood. Maybe the problem isn't my son watching his buddy play ball.
Northwest also had fights after a football game last year. I think the opposing team was QO. Led to separate gates and time changes for games last year. Perhaps the problem are the Northwest football program and students. The whole county shouldn’t be penalized for the conduct of a school with a long history of violence. MCPS has totally sucked the community atmosphere out of Friday Night Lights.
