On another note. The "changes" they did implement don't make much sense. They have barred students from other schools which shows a true lack of understanding about how moco works. Your student might be in a special program for engineering but has friends at their home school. Too bad, no longer allowed to go watch your friends play. Your girlfriend / boyfriend might go to a neighboring school. Too bad, no longer allowed to go watch a game. You may go to private school. No longer allowed to go watch friends play. Its really punishing the student athletes who have done nothing wrong while failing to address the real issue. The game last week started not with visiting spectators but with players and coaches. In the end, any "bad apples" will still walk right in to the stands because they just need "an adult" which isn't defined further. It was a scramble to look like they were doing "something " but what they did was nothing except penalize the innocent.
I didn't realize this happened. No wonder there was no one at a game last night. It's a shame for the athletes.
Classic MCPS. They took away 20% of my middle schoolers study periods during the week to focus on social-emotional learning and then took away the most popular social outlet they had. They can't even follow their own initiatives and drag everyone down to the lowest level of being treated like criminals who can't be trusted instead of herding the problem students out to their own school, like they did when we were growing up. It's a lose-lose.
Oh, this was maddening! The MS students (and teachers) HATE the SEL nonsense. I’d rather they did something like trash pick-up around the school for SSL hours or something. The SEL in MS is a joke. Everyone knows it. In MS,, my kid’s Science teacher was responsible for doing book discussions on the book Stamped, by Kendi and had lessons on the guiding principles of BLM. That was part of their SEL. It was a joke and an enormous waste of time.
I have no problem with my child learning about these things. I do have a problem with them working on wellness and then taking their social outlets away.
