Absolutely normal. Hip hop and rap. Even pre teens. When my teen DS was eleven, his English teacher assigned Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein.”  We were traveling and got it on books on tape. Of course it’s written in flowery 19th century English. After a while, DW had a fit, switched it off and said this was inappropriate for fifth graders and they should be reading “Charlottes’ Web.” DS (half White/half Asian) agreed and said “I don’t get any of this!  All I get is there’s this dude who made a monster that chased him out of his crib so he was hangin’ with his homie and when he got back to his crib the monster be gone, ya feelin’ me?”  I asked him what happened earlier and again got it completely correct but in language that I understand but can’t speak. This comes from the music they listen to.

I told DS he could make a lot of money translating the classics into hip hop. [/quote]
