New to the county...is there a reason some elementary schools start at 9:25? It makes it difficult for me to arrange a carpool with my friends kid for their practices in DC and I was just curious as to why they would do this? 3:50 seems super late to be getting out of school.
Because the biorhythms of younger children require it.
Certianly not. Biorhythms are longer than daily cycles. There's good academic literature showing that ES kids' circadian rhythms would benefit from earlier starts, while HS kids's circadian rhythms would benefit from later start times. (And, no, it's not just lazy teens or teens staying up too late.)
If you push back high school start times the kids go to bed later to fit it all in.
