The geographically illiterate are still arguing about it. Meantime, the eastern shore continues to be a pleasant And bewildering place to a lot of people.[b] Large, historic Black population[/b] (UMES is an HBCU). New and growing Latino population for agricultural work. Some very affluent communities, some very poor ones and everything in-between. Biggest problem is the quality of schools, which makes it a good place to retire (can drive to JHU in Baltimore for serious medical care w/in 2 hours) but not so great for raising a family. [/quote]

These are the descendants of people who were enslaved in the area. The "historic" areas are run down. Contrast with the Lloyd plantation, which is still owned by descendants of enslavers. I think it's eleventh generation living there.[/quote]
