Actually, the impeachment process is the political stunt. Whether someone is impeached and whether they’re removed from office following impeachment is purely political. Trump’s second impeachment took place too soon for there to have been a thorough investigation. A lot of pieces hadn’t come together yet.

The committee’s investigation and hearings are fact finding missions. The point is to get to the bottom of who planned the insurrection and why, who was advising them and what advice was given, who funded it, who participated and why did they participate, who enabled the insurrection as it was unfolding and why, who hamstrung efforts to get the Capital under control and how and why they did that, what the larger game plan was if the insurrection had succeeded, who has obstructed the investigation and why, etc.

The January 6th investigation that is being pursued by the Justice Department is about criminal culpability. That’s the motivation for Trump to run again. He is somewhat shielded by the powers of the Presidency. Exposure to criminal liability is a big part of why he was so desperate to stay in office in the first place.[/quote]
