Feeling weird because normally I feel exactly like OP, but for the first summer in 20 years of living in the DMV, I have been unbothered by the heat. Sure, I've had a couple days where I've felt stickier than I'd like. It's been very humid this week which has contributed to me being dehydrated and getting headaches at night. Not great. But it's not bad enough for me to complain. I feel good! Not sure why but it's some combination of these factors: - June was actually pretty mild for DC, with lower than average humidity and temps. Makes July feel less oppressive. - We've really prioritized pool time this year. Just the public pool, we don't belong to a club or anything. But we go to the pool a minimum of twice a week, and have taken advantage of some of the extended hours during heat emergencies. It makes such a big difference on very hot days! - I think I finally figured out how to dress both myself and my kid in DC summers. We have the right mix of sun hats, lightweight clothes, sun protective clothing, breathable shoes that are comfortable for walking, etc. Also finally figured out what combination of sunscreen products we need and when and how often to apply. Only took me 20 years! - The last two summers with Covid have been endless nightmares of no or insufficient childcare, extremely high stress from Covid and political issues, etc. This summer we are taking two normal family vacations (nothing extravagant, just visiting family), we have adequate childcare that we were able to organize well in advance of summer and has not been randomly canceled at the last minute or disrupted by "is it a cold, is it Covid?" stress. It's just a normal summer. I get Covid is still around and we still take precautions, but this is the first summer since 2019 where we've been able to approach it somewhat normally as a family and the difference in my stress level, and thus my ability to handle the heat, has been enormous.
