I planted on several years ago in my front yard. I like it so much, I planted another! I have the single trunk variety. Dogwoods are disease prone. I love them but feel sad when I see people try so hard to hold on the them, esp when there is only one good side to the tree.
We have both a crepe myrtle and a dogwood, and I love both of them. Our dogwood struggled for 7 years and then took off! Now it's really gorgeous - covered in blooms, and really nice, dense foliage. I did a ton of research and got a disease resistant variety called Stellar Pink. Crepe myrtles are unmatched in their color and profuse flowers in the summer! We have a giant one. Yes, it is messy, but the mess is limited to a relatively short timeframe. Totally worth it.
