Stopping or slowing down to wave pedestrians across the street where there is no crosswalk is incredibly dangerous. Some drivers think this makes them a nice person, but it is a terrible idea.
Agree if it's not at an intersection. But what if there is a crosswalk? What about an unmarked crosswalk?
I don't think 99% of people understand what an unmarked crosswalk is or the law related to it.
I just had to look it up. Was not familiar with the term. I think drivers should always stop for pedestrians at a marked crosswalk. But I run a lot and I’ve had drivers come to complete stops in the middle of a road to wave me across, then we get in to this awkward “you go,” “no, you go,” exchange. Driver seems to think they’re being nice, but they’re not paying attention to cars barreling down the road in the opposite direction who have no intention of stopping (nor should they.) Seems the same could easily happen at an unmarked crosswalk. And a marked one, too, really, but at least most drivers know to look out for pedestrians there (at least I hope they do).
