You don't know what you are talking about.
We did no acceleration with my 2 kids up until 5th. But math came easily to them, and they were just treading water while the some of the class progressed through the material. You know what the other kids learned that my kids didn't?

They never learned that it was okay to not know the answer to something. They never learned how to ask the teacher for help. They always knew everything that was taught so those muscles weren't developed.
The pandemic hit and our school didn't have much teaching for a while, so we scrambled to fill the gap. AOPS was one of the things we used. I had one of my kids telling me that he was so happy he was learning something new finally. That's when we decided to get them math lessons to whatever level they could handle. 
Don'[t worry that we are upsetting your public school experience. These kids will dutifully do whatever assignment the teacher gives out and not complain to them that they are "bored." But going forward, we've decided not to let their public school experience interfere with their education.

I do the same thing with my kids. It's not about getting ahead or any nonsense like that. They need to use this time wisely and learn as much as they can. School math is slow. Even in the most advanced classes offered for their grade, they wind up with 100% and never do homework. I got tired of them being bored and started using AoPS to provide the challenge and depth they need. They can spend their time in school math helping other kids.[/quote]
