https://www.apsva.us/school-year-2021-22/health-safety-information/contact-tracing-quarantine-isolation/ It's the last day of school yesterday/today/tomorrow. So who cares. But yes, see above and it's district wide. They are also pretty lame about identifying close contacts and don't try that hard. In elementary, they just tell the kids who sit at the positive kid's table. My middle school kid sat right next to a friend in class who was positive and we were never called.
Trying to prepare myself for kindergarten next year and back-up care if needed. Hope our school is as lame as yours!
You'll need backup care regardless. Our kindergartener is a master at catching colds that require a PCR test before she can return because of covid-like symptoms. Plan for lots of days out.
So your kid catches a cold, you give a rapid test that comes out negative... and you tell the school about this? Why? You aren't required to report this.
Yeah I’m confused about this. Classes are still requesting proof of being Covid negative when cold symptoms are present ? District wide or teacher by teacher ? For the love of all things holy and the absolute need to return our children to normalcy can people please just STOP TESTING!!!!
Why is this confusing? If you have a fever, cough, stomach discomfort, etc you are supposed to fill out the screener questionnaire. Most likely you get flagged to go get a rapid test.
Yes, we are aware of the screener. The completely optional and not required screener. Keep filling it out for every sniffle and you will continue to keep your kid out of school for days while you await a PCR result.
Keep up. They don’t require PCR. Rapid via video with school nurse or go to Syphax.
...or how about just doing a rapid test yourself and calling it a day? What value is being added by having a school nurse watch you, or taking your kid to a specific place to get the same test that you can do at home? You DO NOT have to fill out the screener and trigger these processes.
NP here. I don’t fill out the screener, but what do you tell the school if your kid gets sick and needs to stay home for a day or two? If you want an excused absence you have to give them a reason. Since basically everything (even a tummy ache) can be COVID, my kids had to prove a negative result to come back. Which is crazy to me because no one ever asks if your kid has tested negative for flu, norovirus, RSV etc. Just COVID throws us into a frenzy still. Toward the end of the school year I stopped erring on the side of keeping my kids home with a slight runny nose because I didn’t want to get flagged for a test to come back so it had the opposite effect of keeping sick kids out of school. I would have gladly kept them home if there wasn’t a hurdle to return (I was told you’re only given a proctored rapid test if your kid is *sent home* sick, not if you call out). Also Syphax only tests kids without symptoms I believe. If you’re showing symptoms you have to get a PCR at Kenmore, which takes 24 hours. Basically APS has made this so onerous they are disincentivizing parents from reporting symptoms and keeping sick kids home.
Honestly? Because of the unreasonable testing processes, I would say, "Larlo is out of school for a dentist appointment/family emergency/dr. appointment". It's sad, but I'm not about to put myself and my kids through APS's hygiene theater when at-home tests are saying the kid doesn't have Covid.
