For the cold turkey PPs, do you also avoid very sweet fruits and dried fruits like grapes/raisins, dates, sweet cherries, dried apricots, etc.?
I’m an earlier PP who recommended going cold turkey but I don’t have a sweet tooth myself and don’t consciously limit sugar (just don’t eat it by virtue of what I like to eat). I don’t eat dried fruit, especially sweet dried fruit, because it’s so calorie dense. I barely eat fresh fruit at all and if I do it’s berries or clementines.
I once went cold turkey because my sugar consumption was out of control. I had started a few months prior at an office where there was candy and baked goods everywhere, every day. I only cut out processed sugar and not fruit, although I would never eat dates or other dried fruit anyway (if I'm going to eat that many calories/sugar in one item, it would be a cupcake). I didn't cut out any type of regular fruit. The first few days were really hard and I remember thinking "I finally get what addiction must feel like." The cravings do go away completely after awhile though. I didn't keep it up and eventually began eating sugar again, but never at the levels I was before.
