[quote=Anonymous]I live in Maine. When I was in DC I paid 1800 for an infant in Alexandria (6 years ago). With my 2nd/3rd we had a nanny and paid her 39,000-42000 (she got raises during the three years she was with us), and there were some costs on that with taxes, generally like $3700-$3800 a month. This would be much more in DC IMO. Higher COL. Then we had one in preschool ($1300 a month) and two in daycare (~2000 a month) so that was like $3300, maybe a little less. It definitely felt cheaper than the nanny so maybe I'm remembering a bit wrong. But daycare also provides food and we needed to buy less toys/art supplies/tickets to stuff nanny would take them to etc. Now we have #2 wrapping up preschool ($1400 a month), #1 in K ($500 a month for aftercare) and #3 in daycare (~1000 a month) so $2900. Next year we have GOTTEN TO THE OTHER SIDE! 1 and 2 will be $500 a month aftercare and baby will still be in daycare, so probably less than 2k a month, back where we were with my infant in an $1800 daycare wondering how on earth we would make that work. Somehow, we found the money, had to stop retirement for awhile here and there. We have very good jobs, it was hard, but when you get to the other side, you feel like you got a HUGE raise haha.
