I'd have WAY more respect for the defund police movement if they were also actively provided an effectively community safety framework.   And they don't.  They just want police gone.  Mental health supports aren't it.   Almost none of the violent crime has mental health issues as an underlying cause.

Look at the Magruder shooting.  The defendant was referred for evaluation and there is nothing remarkable in terms of special needs or mental health or abuse or anything.   He just shot Dre, leaving him on life support for three weeks, 9 surgeries, and a colostomy bag.  No wellness center was going to ever stop that.

People and politicians need to support policing.  They need to make sure it's good, constitutional, just policing.   [/quote]
