Why aren't there any virtual programs for middle schoolers this year? Only virtual programs that we see are for HS students for students to catch up. So what about the program for kids who are doing well at their grade levels? None?
Seems like a waste of resources to pay instructors to teach kids already working on grade level, when there are plenty of kids who really need the extra instruction, and teachers are already stretched thin. Anyway, what would be the point? What would they even teach the kids? They don't need remediation or repetition of material already learned; and if they were to get a jump-start on next year's classes, they'll be totally bored when the class is working on something they already learned in summer school. If it's just to keep them out of trouble in the summer, look for an online enrichment class like Outschool. Or have them work through Kahn Academy courses if you want something free.
The MCPS summer school, except specialized classes are generally a waste of time for kids at grade level. And, they are only a few weeks. Privates offer real summer school classes or MCPS is offering free tutoring.
