Yes! I think the only surprise (to me) was ATS now starts early. I didn't realize they were slated to change times. Claremont is back to an early start time and I am so grateful. I Do think my kids will be sad about waking up earlier but the evenings have been so rushed. We basically get home and run out the door. I Think my kids are really struggling this year with that. It will be nice for them to have more downtime before they have to head to sports.
ATS was supposed to start at 9 but they petitioned to change it
Of course they did. I don't disagree with them wanting an earlier time but this is so entitled.
FOR EVERYTHING: ATS was supposed to “X” but they positioned to change. Waste of resources, entitled parents. If it works, systemize it, if not get rid of it.
The teachers were the driving force behind the change. But I doubt you ever pass up an opportunity to call other parents entitled.
No they decided in favor of the parents not the teachers and they extended the day which is really crappy for the peons like me that now have to drive home to Fairfax (we can’t afford Arlington) and have to wait until well af ter 4 to get on 395 and can’t take the 4:00 bus anymore. I’m angry about it because it felt like a bait and switch- Duran just changed it all on his whim, after claiming to listen to us. Adding time to the school day at the end of the day is awful for people like me who have elementary kids of our own who need to get to sports/after school practices and have to commute the slog. Flame away, but one reason I chose teaching as a career was so I could be on a similar schedule to my kids. Adding 9 minutes isn’t just 9 minutes when you factor in the lack of regular metro buses (they only run every half hour) and the fact that getting on 395 10-15 minutes later adds 20 minutes to the commute because of worsening traffic. I’m really angry about it.
In this case it was to support the teacher's wishes. ATS staff signed a letter that they wanted the earlier start time and the PTA decided to support that position despite the fact that parents only voted a very slim majority for a 7:50 start time. FWIW Contract time will not change so if you were at a 3:41 school you will still be leaving at the same time.
How cute you think parents pick up their kids on time
No need to roll your eyes at me. I’m also an APS teacher, I understand how it works.
