I thought maybe I was getting things 2x because I have 2 kids in MCPS. But it does seem like I’m actually getting 3. Plus, I feel like they are communicating about so many things that I don’t have the bandwidth to engage in. Like this goals/priorities discussion (I received notifications on 3 different days, 2-3 notifications each day.) Then the “important information from interim superintendent McKnight etc” texts: if it’s important info, just tell us the point in the text rather than making us click through to a web page and read something else. Then the MCPS “things to know” texts. If I need to know them, please just text them instead of texting that there is another message that I need to read. I am now at the point where I would like to complain to MCPS about that. I find the principals’ weekly calls /emails the most relevant . Then my kids’ PTA sends out their own on the same day which is really confusing, too. I get that the PTA has its own agenda/events, but they should either reproduce the principal’s email within theirs..embed it somehow … then say, “in addition to the important reminded mentioned by the principle, we’d like to add [Ptsa event/topic etc].
Agree with most of this. They need to take a class on writing emails, as a big part of what principals, superintendents etc do is communication and they're really failing at it. I don't mind more emails if they have relevant subject lines indicating actions to be taken eg: "Change in quarantine procedures" "Picture day tomorrow" "Meeting on selecting electives for middle school tomorrow" Instead we get spammed with the same "6 important things you need to know" type emails, most of which aren't actually important. Our principal also sends long emails, where important things are often hidden on page 3 of the attachment...
