Maybe you skipped over that party but it seems like you got mad at the niece, sent her away and then told her you would not hang out with her anymore. So without meaning to, you modeled being mean. So perhaps go over with your niece what she can say or do before you get to the park or wherever you are going. My sister parent her daughter differently than me. She said she wants her daughter to be free range and manage her behavior. She's basically like a untrained puppy at the playground ground and other family functions. My kids are confused why she's allowed to do whatever she wants and they don't.[/quote]
